The Milwaukee Water Council trade group on Tuesday will receive an inaugural U.S. Water Prize from the Clean Water America Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group.
The award groups the Water Council, which is meant to coax jobs, investment and research from the stable of water-technology companies in southeastern Wisconsin, with the Pacific Institute in Oakland, Calif., which also won one of the five U.S. Water Prizes.
Three other institutions also were recognized: the cities of Los Angeles and New York, both for water recovery and reuse programs; as well as the National Great Rivers Restoration & Education Center, which is creating a science and education center in Alton, Ill.
