Combined research portfolio demonstrates the value of used water

On May 5, the Boards of Directors for the Water Environment Research Foundation and WateReuse Research Foundation voted unanimously to merge our two organizations, effective May 6, 2016. The new organization is the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF). Beginning today, WE&RF will be led by a single Board of Directors comprised of all directors from the previous foundations and Chief Executive Officer, Melissa Meeker.

For decades, both organizations have relied on your annual financial support and generous contributions to produce a combined portfolio valued at more than $200 million of high-quality research in water, wastewater, and stormwater. We are grateful for your commitment.

As our research foundations come together to create a critical node in the water community, we want to renew our commitment to you and the many subscribers, donors, stakeholders, and industry supporters that make our work possible. To best serve you, the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation will:

• Build on the impressive portfolio in resource recovery, reuse, desalination, and other research areas created by each organization during the last quarter of a century.
• Develop an integrated approach to research that defines and tackles the toughest challenges of our day, growing our comprehensive and cohesive body of relevant and applied science.
• Create a continual cycle of improvement and innovation that accelerates the adoption of new technologies in the marketplace.
• Tap the expertise of our vast network of subscribers and supporters for leadership and volunteer opportunities.
• Provide a variety of educational activities to share research, drive innovation, and transform expertise.
• Advance the concept of One Water, by demonstrating the value of used water.
