The Water Council is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the International Water Association (IWA) Board of Directors meeting in Milwaukee on June 19-20, 2014. The IWA selected Milwaukee for this meeting of the leadership of the organization to learn from the strength of the region’s water technology cluster. This is the first time the IWA has held their board meeting in the Midwest, and only their second visit to the United States. The board meeting will coincide with The Water Council’s annual conference, Water Summit VII, held at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center on June 18-19, 2014.
“Having the IWA Board of Directors in Milwaukee will give us access to some of the most knowledgeable people in the world concerning contemporary water issues,” said Dean Amhaus, president and CEO of The Water Council. “This allows us to showcase our work here in front of a global audience and provides us with world-class presenters and speakers for Water Summit VII.”

The IWA Board of Directors has members from public and private utilities, leading technology companies, universities, research organizations, consultants and regulators reflecting the broad base of the IWA world-wide. Members of the Board include, for example, the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer – CH2M HILL, Senior Executive Vice President Water Western Europe – Suez Environment, Deputy Managing Director – Vienna Waterworks, President of the International Federation of Private Water Operators, Former President of African Water Association, Senegal and distinguished professors from all parts of the world covering different aspects of the water cycle and services.

“The International Water Association has a significant part of its members based in the United States. Coming to Milwaukee provides an opportunity to strengthen the contribution of the IWA to accelerate innovation, learn from experiences and inspire change throughout the water sector,” said Dr. Ger Bergkamp, Executive Director of the International Water Association. “We look forward to coming to Milwaukee and contributing to a successful Water Summit VII.”

Water Summit VII will be a two-day event featuring keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and evening events centered around water on a global scale. Last year’s theme was “Building the Water-Centric City” and featured such speakers as Pat Mulroy, former General Manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority and Fred Dubee, Special Advisor for the Global Compact and Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
