The Milwaukee Water Council has received several major grants that will help it broaden its mission in the coming years, executive director Dean Amhaus said.

In the last few weeks, the Water Council has received a $75,000 grant from The Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation, a $50,000 grant from The Richard and Ethel Herzfeld Foundation and a $35,000 grant from The David and Julia Uihlein Charitable Foundation. It also received a $50,000 Helen Bader Foundation grant in March.

The money will increase the council’s budget significantly from its 2009 tally of about $50,000, allowing it to go from a volunteer group to a full-fledged economic development organization, Amhaus said.
