Partnership Aids SIGMADAF’s U.S. Expansion
SIGMADAF has more than 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing dissolved air flotation systems for industrial wastewater treatment from its headquarters in Girona, Spain.
But when company leaders wanted to expand into the U.S. market a few years ago, they knew partnering with an American company was key.
“U.S. presence is important to U.S. corporations – reliability of support, being able to contact somebody within U.S. time zones, being able to speak within the units of measurement that we have in the US and speak the language,” said Aaron Reynolds, TITLE.
Through the Catalan Water Partnership, SIGMADAF got in touch with The Water Council. We introduced SIGMADAF to Clearwater Industries, a manufacturer of water clarification equipment located just a few miles from our Milwaukee headquarters.
In 2023, the two companies formed Clearwater-AquaSigma, LLC, doing business as SIGMADAF USA. The joint venture now has five active installations across the U.S. with plans to ship three more in the second quarter.
“Clearwater was a great fit due to it also being a family owned and operated business,” Reynolds said. Clearwater also has engineering and fabrication experience, like SIGMADAF, and its product line complements the SIGMADAF offerings.
The equipment is manufactured in-house, starting in Spain and finishing in the U.S., allowing the company complete control over engineering and fabrication and guaranteeing reliability.
As SIGMADAF continues to grow in the U.S., it is targeting the industrial wastewater sector, specifically food and beverage. This week, the company held a lunch and learn event at The Water Council’s headquarters to coincide with the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association’s CheeseExpo.
“Cheese production is absolutely an industry that we have current installations in and is very well fit for our equipment,” Reynolds said.
SIGMADAF continues to benefit from membership in The Water Council beyond the initial connection to Clearwater Industries. The ability to hold an event at The Water Council’s headquarters is a prime example, Reynolds said.
“The Water Council has been hugely helpful in breaking SIGMADAF USA into the market,” he said. “The wealth of connections The Water Council has with collaborative companies and potential end users has been great.
“The mission itself is important. We all see the imperative need for action for water in the U.S. and globally.”
